There are lots of hotels all over the world and they are all different. Some hotels are the cozy and modest type while others are imposing and sophisticated. But there’s also a different category that includes those hotels that stop you on your tracks and when you see them all you say is “wow”. These hotels definitely have the wow factor.

1. The Katikies Hotel.

Located in Oia Santorini, Greece, Katikies is a luxury boutique hotel that sits 300 feet above sea level, on the beautiful Caldera cliffs. It was the first hotel of its kind in this region and remains one of the most amazing hotels in the world. Its crisp white façade and overall design makes it impossible to miss. The amazing location of this hotel comes with many benefits.


First of all, the hotel offers uninterrupted views of the sea from every point. This luxury hotel offers 20 ocean-view rooms from where the Amalfi Coast can be admired. All the rooms also have views of the tiered gardens and the spectacular surroundings. Over the years, several design changes have been made. Many of the building’s original features have been retained but lots of elements have also been added. For example, the hotel now has state-of-the-art facilities that include an infinity pool placed on the cliff’s edge and a luxury spa.

3. The Ladera Resort.

The Ladera resort is located outside of Soufrere in St. Lucia and features a unique design. It offers a total of 9 villas and 23 suites and features an open wall structure in the area where the west side of every unit is left open and exposed to the views. The resort offers amazing views of the Piton Mountains and the Caribbean Sea, a wonderful combination, not very common but always spectacular.

All suites and villas feature private plunge pools. This luxury resort is somewhere at the limit between sophisticated and minimalist. The Radisson Blu Hotel is very famous not for its views or architecture but for the fact that it has the world’s largest cylindrical aquarium. It’s called the Aquadom and it’s filled with nearly 1 million liters of seawater. The aquarium features 1,500 tropical fish from 56 species and has been decorated with tiny reef-like mounds at the base.

This amazing and unique aquarium is managed by the Sea Life Berlin Aquarium which is located next door to the hotel. Responsible for taking care of the aquarium and feeding the fish are two full-time scuba divers. The aquarium is made of acrylic glass and has a cylindrical shape. Because of its size, the cylinder was manufactured in four pieces and built on-site. It sits on a 30-feet concrete foundation and a crane was used to lift the individual pieces during the construction. The aquarium and the hotel were built at the same time. It was in fact the hotel that was erected around the tank, making it the star and the main attraction.

A glass elevator allows visitors to travel to the viewing platform which is located beneath the hotel’s glass roof and from there they can enjoy the amazing views below. Often, the scuba divers can be seen swimming with the fish or taking care of them. For those that wish to spend more time here, the hotel offers 427 suites with views of the tropical underwater world or with views of the city.

5. The Glass Igloo Village of the Kakslauttenen Hotel.

When you look out the window and see the amazing weather and all the snow piling up you wish you could spend more time there. Unfortunately, it’s cold outside so you can’t. But there is one place where the conditions are just perfect. It’s the Glass Igloo Villa of the Kakslauttenen Hotel.

Located in Finland, this amazing hotel makes winter even more beautiful than it already is. Here, the guests can sleep in igloo-like glass domes. The Igloo Village is situated in the middle of the town so the guests have easy access to other facilities as well if they wish to take a trip to the Urho Kekkonen Nation Park for example.

And after a busy day, the hotel’s guests can retreat into their glass domes and fall asleep under the stars. The glass domes offer complete and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape as well as the sky. 7. Soneva Gill by Six Senses.

Soneva Gill by Six Senses is a wonderful getaway that can be found in the Maldives. It occupies one of the largest lagoons in the area and it’s a resort-like structure that features oversized villas that sit on water. Every villa offers spectacular views of the ocean and they can all be found on the tropical island of Lankanfushi that stretches over 800 kilometers.

The resort is a 20-minute speedboat ride from the International Airport at Male’ and occupies one of the 1190 islands that make up the Maldives. Located in Singapore, this amazing hotel has lots of unique elements. Since the views there aren’t exactly spectacular, the solution for that was to work with what was available and create something unique. The Marina Bay Sands development is the world’s most expensive hotel. Not only that, but it also has the world’s largest outdoor pool situated 650 feet above ground level.

The pool is three times larger than an Olympic swimming pool and 55 storeys up so those that wish to use it must be careful. It’s not the best option for those that are afraid of heights but it’s definitely a memorable and unique experience. The hotel also offers 2,560 rooms and is currently the most expensive hotel in the world, a title that was previously attributed to the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

The Marina Bay Sands includes a casino, an outdoor plaza, a convention center, a theatre and a museum shaped like a lotus flower so there are plenty of other things besides the pool to attract visitors. The hotel was designed by architect Moshe Safdie and it is said to have been built on a deck of cards.
